One of the greatest attractions in Africa and one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world, Victoria Falls is located on the Zambezi River, the fourth largest river in Africa, which is also defining the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Victoria Falls is roughly twice the height of North America’s Niagara Falls and well over twice the width of its Horseshoe Falls. While it is neither the highest nor the widest waterfall in the world, Victoria Falls is classified as the largest, based on its combined width of 5,604 feett and height of 354 feet, earning its distinction as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
The noise of Victoria Falls can be heard from a distance of 25 miles away, while the spray and mist from the falling water is rising to a height of over 1300 feet and can be seen from a distance of 30 miles. Hence, the official and original name in the local Lozi language is Mosi-oa-Tunya (translated “the smoke that thunders”), Victoria Falls is the world’s largest sheet of falling water and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site.
